Rob Clement wins 2024 Cottesloe Senior Open

Cottesloe member Rob Clement became the fourth Cottesloe member to win the Cottesloe Senior Open with a winning 2-over-par  74 gross on Monday 15 July.

The 10th running of the Cottesloe Senior Open saw a diversified field of 83 starters with the 43 A-Grade (0-10) playing stroke and 26 B-Grade players  (11-17) and 14 C-Grade (18-above) playing stableford.

The course was in fabulous condition on a perfect day for golf and the 777 bent greens, consistent across all 18 holes after the 2023/2024 renovations, drawing great praise from visitors.

Cottesloe Captain Graeme Finlayson welcomed all visitors who enjoyed a fabulous lunch and then all winners were acknowledged and presented and are pictured in gallery below.

The Cottesloe Senior Open winner was Cottesloe’s Rob Clement who has had a great recent run of great form. As has been documented that included an amazing hole-in-one in Division 5 Pennants on Sunday June 30 on the 14th hole at Sun City Country Club.  That ace only matched his WAGC opponent Ian Gompertz  who had dropped in his tee shot first,  the rarest of halved holes and a first career ace for them both. Going into the event today, Rob had the leading score in Saturday A-Grade the previous two Saturdays and certainly showed why again, playing from a daily handicap of 5 from the black tee course.

In the shotgun start at 9am, Rob teed off from the 18th hole and opened with a modest bogey. He then reeled off birdies on 1, 4, 8 and 9 for a front nine 32 before a double bogey on 10 to be 1-under gross. Six pars 11-17 followed and then with some side-bets apparently on the line with his Cottesloe mates in the group of four, Rob found West Coast Highway with his first drive and finished with a side-bet losing triple bogey 8 for a gross 74. That still proved to be a winning score for the Senior Open title, winning by two from Roland Scheffler (Hartfield) whose 76 beat on a countback third placed and defending champion Peter Bennett (Royal Perth). A bottle of Penfolds Grange for the winner Rob certainly offset his sidebar payouts to his good mates in the group.
