Annual Report 2013-2014

Course

It was pleasing to see the new Graham Marsh designed
12th, 13th and 14th holes in play for 2014 Opening Day
and they have certainly added a different dimension to
the back nine holes.
I am the first to put up my hand to say the 2013/2014
summer was a challenging one and one which we
will learn a lot from. We underestimated the extent of
additional work and resources required to prepare the
new holes whilst maintaining a well presented balance
of 14 holes for members to play.
The positive outcome was a full review of course
tasks and these have been implemented with
ongoing reviews to ensure presentation standards are
maintained.
The presentation of the course through the 2014
playing season was of a high standard, highlighted
through the Club Championships and WA Open. Our
course superintendent Simon Bourne and his team
should be commended for a tremendous effort. The
commitment by the course staff to rectify the extensive
storm damage following round three of the WA Open
demonstrated their passion for the course and I am
proud to say we have a very dedicated and qualified
team.
Water management continues to be the biggest
challenge and this year has proved no different. We
have commenced a number of water saving initiatives
including the reduced water supply to non-play
areas, however, we remain challenged by our annual
allowance even with these initiatives in place.
