With: Phil Ryan
The 11th annual Cottesloe Senior Open, a State ranking event for men 55+ saw some excellent golf in excellent weather for the 89 starters. The talented Michael Lucas of Harvey won his second Cottesloe Senior Open title with a great gross round of 70, the lowest in the now 11 year history of the event.
Cottesloe Senior Open leaderboard
The field of 89 starters saw 49 in A-Grade (up to GA10.0) play stroke for the Senior Open Trophy.
Stableford event for B-Grade (GA10.1 to 17.0) saw 30 players and C-Grade (GA17.01-23.0) saw 10 players.
The field enjoyed a delightful lunch afterwards with presentations conducted by Board member Rob Clement (himself the defending champion) and Golf Director Damian Chatterley.
Rob noted Michael Lucas had been a previous winner in 2020 and indeed his round of 70 beat the previous best gross score in the event, previously held by Peter Bennett 2023, Michael Lucas 2022 and Sean Niven 2019.
The 2025 winner Michael thanked the club for the opportunity to play, thanked his playing partners and grateful like all for the fabulous weather conditions and condition of the course. Chatting with Michael afterwards he noted how long the course was playing on some par 4’s with limited run. He birdied all par fives 4, 8, 14 and 17 and a further birdie on 15 a real bonus, dropping just 13, 16 and 18 in his great round.
